In Central Florida, they are doing some amazing research on Dolphins and their new diseases. These diseases effect the dolphin’s from swimming and behaving properly in the oceans and local Florida waters.

This research is in partnership with a marine group in Florida and the Georgia Aquarium. You need to see this video to understand the type of research that is being done.

Kitana, a 2 year old female dolphin, is being rehabilited at Gulf World marine park. They found Kitana off the shore and she was very sickly. Now she is living the good life for now at the park, eating and playing. She is getting healthy quickly.  The reason I say for now, because the last dolphin at Gulf World that was nursed to health and set free got ate by Sharks almost immediately after the release.

The protocol by the Marine Fishery Act requires animals to be set free after they are healthy enough.

When bringing people to swim with the dolphins, the biggest thing people talk about is what a dolphin feel like.  Many say the dolphin skin feels like rubber, some say it feels like a hard boiled egg, and some say it feels like wet leather.

I am curious what you thought the skin would feel like before you entered the water with the dolphins and what it actually felt like to you?

I saw this News Release about this young artist, 13 year old, Guy Snell, who did a marine life mural on the side of a local business in Key Largo.  His mentor is Wyland, a world famous Marine Life artist.

Here is an article from the newspaper where a girl got here job with the dolphins after she intern. I have said many times, that to get the job with the dolphins, you need to intern.

After graduating from Louisiana Tech, Burrow, an Evangel High grad, got an internship in Miami. That grew into the job she’d envisioned. For the past four years she’s been training dolphins, swimming with dolphins and performing four or five shows a day, five days a week. < Read More >

Hi there,

I was just thinking about my honeymoon in Oahu Hawaii and where we swam with the dolphins and did so much more.

First of all, Hawaii is really beautiful and the people are really nice.  There is so much to do there, mountains, oceans, shopping, and sightseeing.

The swim with the dolphins at sea life park hawaii is amazing. The park overlooks the North Shore of Oahu and you get the best of both worlds, swimming with dolphins and a view that is breath taking.

We also went to the Polynesian Village, Snorkeling with Wild Spinner Dolphins, ate amazing Dim Sum in China Town in Honolulu, shrimp farms and ate delicious shrimp,  my wife’s favorite, and went to the Pearl Harbor memorial too.

Does anyone out there have an Oahu Hawaii story? I know I have heard about the other islands but I like to hear more stories about Oahu.

We get so many calls and request for this, Dolphin Assisted Therapy, but unfortunately we handle special needs persons only on a limited basis, most people, especially children, need special care.  We wrote a story about this subject and gave you a successful and well known Dolphin facility that can help you in Key Largo.

This special needs, swim with the dolphin program in Key Largo, is geared to help those that can not do or need more help then a regular dolphin swim can give a particular individual. Usually a special needs person, needs a certified trainer or instructor in the water with them and can give them one on one time  with them and the dolphins.  This program has the care that someone with autism or handicapped needs.

I just thought I would let you know that the Atlantis now is hosting the Dubai Autism Center where Autisic children are getting therapy with Dolphins.

Since we do not deal with any facilities that have a special needs program, I do not know the results from these dolphin programs.  I hear great things but have not heard from any parents that children participated.

Do you know of any reports of this type of therapy?  Would you go as far as Dubai to get this type of therapy?

Here is an interesting article I found on the web, how the Mote’s Sarasota Dolphin Research Program study a wild dolphin since 1971. Unfortunately this dolphin called “FBS”, died May 22 of this year.

A female wild dolphin monitored for 38 years by the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program based at Mote Marine Laboratory died May 22, leaving behind two documented generations of offspring to continue her legacy.  < Read More>

I found this article really interesting for the fact that they tracked this dolphin for 38 years and how  tough her life was out there in the open ocean in the later years of her life. But she did have a big family which was really nice.

There are some human similarities because FBS was so close to her dolphin pods during her early years and then alone at the end. Isn’t that how we treat our seniors too? Where many of our seniors are alone and without any family.

Hi All,

We wrote a story about the Sounds that Dolphins make, the squeals, the whistles, the clicking, and popping sounds. All very unnique to marine mammals.

When you go swimming with the dolphins, you can not help but hear these amazing sounds while underneath the water.  I really love the clicking sound. You know the dolphin is sending out their signal and reading you and your body.  Its seems like they are doing a total Xray of you.

My favorite experience with the dolphin sounds is when I swam with them in Bimini Bahamas.  The day I did it was not the clearest and it was  hard to see the spotted dolphins. But you could hear the clicking and popping everywhere. The next thing you know, the dolphins are all around you and checking you out. It is so cool. I love it.  Without the sounds, the dolphins would be a totally stealth and you would never know they are there. Read the Story>>>
