Sevastopolsky Oceanarium

Hi all,

Here was an interesting email from Tatyana.

Dear John,
Here is attached my photo. I was in Sevastopolsky Oceanarium.
The name of this dolphin is Richard. He is 15 years. I swam, dance, communicate with him.
Best wishes,
Tatyana

I hope Tatyana can tell more about the place where she did this. When I looked online it seems like it might be in Russia somewhere. Tatyana, if you read this blog, can you tell us more about the facility? Thank you for the lovely picture.

Tropical Storm Ernesto

Hi All,

Sitting through the final night of the storm in South Florida. Wow, this storm was a nothing storm, hardly any rain or wind. Thank goodness! I know preparing for a storm and it doesn’t come is really a pain but I need to look on the bright side, no damage to people, property, and the dolphins.

Everything should be back up to normal either Wednesday or Thursday the latest.

Thank you for all your prayers for safety.

Hurricane Ernesto Update – Dolphin Program

Hi Everyone,

All is still calm here in South Florida, the programs in the Florida Keys and Miami are closed for now. About Wednesday and Thursday, it is a wait and see before deciding if the programs will be closed on those days.

Right now, Ernesto is a tropical storm and may be upgraded to a Hurricane after the storm crosses the Florida straights.

If anyone out there would like to add some blog entries about your experience during this storm, I would like to hear what you have to say.

Stay safe out there.

So what kind of mothers are dolphins? And how can you tell at sea?

Hi All,

Here is a story from ANN WEAVER, a researcher, who is watching a mother named E and her calf Easter and seeing what kind of mother E is. Is she a good or bad mother?

Can you read this article and see what you think? Do you have any comments on the article.

Hey Gang,

Not much news out there, but here is one story I found which was cute and interesting. They found Scrappy uncomfortably swimming around while wearing a black, Speedo-brand man’s swimsuit.

Can you believe this is true? To look at this story, go to:

Scientist says dolphins are dim-wits

Hey Gang,

Here is a interesting article I read on the web today. Paul Manger of Johannesburg’s University makes the comment that Dolphins may have big brains but says “lab rats and even goldfish can outwit them.”

Wow a  pretty bold statement. See what he says in the article, very interesting. I would be interested to get your feed back on it, for and against what he says in the article.

Encountering dolphins at the Minnesota Zoo

Hey there,

Can you believe this, Minnesota has a dolphin encounter program. Wow, does that mean no one will be coming South anymore?  Hopefully not, the article tells about the program and what you will be doing during your time with the dolphins. Also, it gives some interesting information on dolphins.

Go to:

What is your opinion about the Minnnesta Zoo having a dolphin encounter program?

Jet ski man faces dolphin charge

Hi there,

Well, here is another story I found today. It is interesting that this was posted online about a JET skier being reported to the local authorities with complaints he was spotted close to a pod of bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth area, in the UK. The local Conservationists were trying to press charges under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to the Jet Skier but could not find him to do this.

Here is the article:
http://news.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=1160682006

How do you feel about this, boaters and personal watercrafts around dolphins? I know in Key West they have a Jet Ski tour around the island, a very good tour by the way, and sometimes during the tour you run into a pod a dolphins. I know when I went on the tour, we stopped the Jet Skis and watch the pod around us, very cool and exciting. After awhile of watching, we all started up and went on our way. So I did not see anything wrong with this, but harassment of the Dolphins is another story.

What is your opinion about this?

God Bless,
John
