Dolphin Watch, Just Swinging by the Boat

Hi all,

Just thought I would share this story I saw from Ann Weaver, she seems to write a lot of stories of Dolphin Research in the Wild. This story is about her collecting data of dolphins near Tampa, FL and one data-deserving behavior is called “just swinging by.” Dolphins swing by when they approach the boat, check us out the boat, the people on the boat and resume their activities.

Here is Ann’s story,
http://www.tbnweekly.com/content_articles/092706_out-01.txt

Has anyone else had this experience out there? One time I was in Key Biscayne, FL and a whole pod of Dolphins came around the boat and hung out with us for 20 minutes. It was amazing.

Dolphin May Get a Prosthetic Tail

Hi there,

Here is a update on Winter and her prosthetic tail. I had mention about her in the past. If you do not remember, Winter’s prosthesis would be the first for a dolphin who lost its tail and the key joint that allows it to move in powerful up-and-down strokes.

To  read more on her progress, go to:

If anyone has any feedback on this story, I would love to hear it.

DolphinWorld Customer Comments for August 2006

Hi All,

At Dolphin World we send out a survey after the customer has experienced one our tours. 90% that come back for August were really good comments about our business and how we can make the business better for you. Unfortunately we are not perfect, and 10% did come back where the customer was not happy about the program we sold them. Well I am going to post some of the good comments here. But the one person that was unhappy with our program asked, “how come I do not post the bad comments on our website”. I do not know any company’s website that post negative comments about their business but most company’s blogs and forums will do that. Well I will give that person or you a chance to put your unhappy comments here in the blog. I will not edit it, unless it has bad language or really nasty, which a small minority can be.

“Each year we go to the Keys to swim with dolphins, making our own arrangements with the activity venues and hotel.  This year I made one call to Dolphinworld and they coordinated and organised each activity and the hotel.  Dolphinworld staff were courteous and efficient.   I felt we were treated with extra care by the staff at each venue/activity because were were customers of Dolphinworld (rather than independent travellers).  When one activity was cancelled due to bad weather the staff at Dolphinworld were able to reschedule it for us.  We all had a marvellous time, the service was great, the organisation was great, the directions to each venue were clear and concise.”

“The Dolphin experience was truly a great experience for us and our child. It was long enough to be a ‘grand’ experience that you want to do again and did not feel rushed. The people who work there enjoy their jobs and the Dolphins are also happy.  Just a great experience to see Dolphins that are happy and well cared for and allow us to be part of their day.”

“The experience more than met our expectations.  All of the staff were friendly, informal and a pleasure to meet.  The Dolphins and trainers were fantastic: the look  on our son’s face throughout the encounter was a mixture of wonderment and unbridled joy.  It really made the holiday”

“What a fantastic experience from start to finish.  Booking was easy and the experience itself was great from snorkelling in the morning (especially having a shark swim past) to going to all the different attractions that Theatre of the sea but the icing on an already perfect cake was the dolphin swim – the trainers were fantastic especially with someone like me who is not 100% comfortable in water.  All in all a great service by all and a thanks to Dolphin World who helped make the experience happen and answered all of my many and frequent questions.”

“If you want to truly experience a memorable dolphin encounter then this is the one to choose. You have a very good amount of time with your dolphins and have the opportunity to observe and participate in several behaviours. Coupled with the shows on offer and the pleasant surroundings it is good value for money and we have no hesitation in recommending the experience.”

Well I must reach out to our customer that did respond, thank you for your comments, good and bad, and I look forward to any other comments that need to be posted on our blog.

Injured dolphin in need of tail

Hey all,

I thought you might like this story about Winter, the dolphin, who needs a new tail. Last December, she was tangled in a crab trap line in Mosquito Lagoon at Canaveral National Seashore. Clearwater Marine Aquarium hopes to raise at least $100,000 to pay for the tail.

Is anyone out there involved with Clearwater Marine Aquarium who can tell us more about the fund raiser for Winter? Anyone have a picture of Winter to send to me, so I can post it in the Blog?

Let’s keep our prayers for Winter and her success.

Here is a story about the Rare the Irrawaddy Dolphins. The tourism industry in Sarawak is currently abuzz with dolphin-watching tours. Located about 45km north of Kuching, the estuaries of Buntal, Santubong, Salak and Sibu rivers are quietly attracting scores of tourists.  Here is more information on the story:

Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin dead

Hi all,

I know this has nothing to do with Dolphins but Steve Irwin was always someone I can relate to since I am into Adventure Travel. Steve came over the top of a stingray that was buried in the sand, and the barb came up and hit him in the chest, an unfortunate accident. To read more on this story, go to:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/04/australia.irwin/index.html

If anyone has any comments about Steve’s life, please let me hear them.

Rest in Peace Steve and our prays for your family.
