Dolphin Calf’s Death Provides Dolphin Communication Insight
Hi there,
I am not sure if you heard of the story on Castaway, a female Bottlenose Dolphin, stranded last November on Vero Beach and spent 79 days in rehab at Mote Research Lab, to recover from the stranding. She failed to be released in Vero Beach and was brought to Marine Mammal Conservancy’s site, Key Largo, for continued rehab on January 30th. The deaf and pregnant dolphin gave birth to her male calf, named Wilson, on June 11, 2007. You may want to read the touching note from Robert Lingenfelser, President of MMC, and also may want to read the log about Cataway and Baby Wilson’s short life in Key Largo, very interesting. Unfortunately the baby dolphin past away this Friday, June 15. This baby had a reason to live to give marine mammal acoustic researcher the ability to record sounds emanating from the calf as it was born will provide new insight into dolphin communications. [Read More]
In Memory of Baby Wilson the Dolphin’s Short Life.

Does anyone have comments to make on this situation?
God Bless,
John
