Dolphins Being Shot in California
Hi all,
I just read this article where they are finding dolphins washing up on shore in California with bullet holes in the head, pretty disturbing stuff. Some of the evidence is pointing towards angry fisherman, but why? One of the posts from the article brings up a good point, are the fisherman shooting the dolphins because they are injured in the fishing nets and putting the dolphins out of their misery? Or are the fisherman just being lazy and shooting the dolphins because they don’t want to help the dolphins out of the fishing nets? Right now it’s a mystery of who is shooting the dolphins and why. Hopefully someone can solve it soon. Here is the whole story [Dolphin Being Shot in California]
What do you think abou this? Do you even think it’s the fisherman or someone else?
God Bless,
John

Generally, this is a result of people feeding wild dolphins. Dolphinariums train people that feeding dolphins is a fun activity, but when people take what they’ve learned in captive situations about dolphins in to the real world, it quite literally puts dolphin lives at risk. Dolphins aren’t often thought of too kindly by fishermen when their bait and their catch is stolen from the lines or when dolphins surface to beg. The result is what we’ve seen here in California, and have time and time again in Florida, Georgia, etc.

So far in South Florida I have not heard of any shooting situations, praise God, but maybe it’s happening out there in the deep waters and we don’t know about it.
I know the news is out there not to feed the wild dolphins but hopefully people are following that mandate.
Thanks for your input.
