The Eye of the Dolphin Movie is out August 24

Hi there,

If you want to see movie trailers about the “Eye of the Dolphin” please [ Click Here]

Family films tend to suffer from an overabundance of sentimental sap, but this delightful drama about a father and a daughter rediscovering each other avoids that fate without giving up any of its sweet gentleness. The signs don’t look good at the outset: 14-year-old Alyssa (Carly Schroeder: Mean Creek) is “troubled,” and we know this because she wears too much dark eye makeup and scowls behind her iPod. But she rapidly transcends cliché (as does the film), blossoming into a real person as the story takes her from the psychologically stifling Southern California suburbs to the Bahamas research facility where her dad, Dr. James Hawk (Adrian Dunbar: Kidnapped), who didn’t even know she existed till she showed up, is trying to talk to dolphins. And though it seems the potential for goop might rise the moment cute performing animals are introduced, it doesn’t happen: the rocky road to happiness for the little family actually blends very nicely with a kicking and screaming toward environmental awareness for the small beach town that seems more willing to trade dolphin love and possible scientific breakthroughs in interspecies communications for tourist dollars. (Thankfully, the metaphoric comparison with wild dolphins and wild teenagers is never overplayed.) Last year’s Best Drama at the International Family Film Festival is screening as part of the Tribeca Family Festival, a mini event within the larger festival featuring kid-safe films, a street fair on Saturday, May 5, and more. Back to Swim with the Dolphins in Orlando

Hi there,

I just posted my experience to swim with the dolphins in Orlando at Discovery Cove.

swimming with dolphins in Orlando

Orlando is usually synonymous with theme parks and attractions. It’s hard to imagine this land-locked part of Florida being a place to swim with dolphins. But with surroundings as beautiful and tropical as Discovery Cove, it’s hard to believe you’re in the middle of the state. I first came to visit when the facility opened in 2000, and fortunately not much has changed. Even though the price has increased over the years, the experience is still well worth it. So a good friend and I decided to return and hit the Swim with the Dolphins program in Orlando one more time. [ Read More ]

What did you think of my story?

Hi there,
Here at Dolphin World we just started transportation service again to the Dolphin Facility in Miami. We used to have transportation service but after Sept 11, 2001 everything changed. Your courteous driver will ensure that you, your family, and your friends will arrive safely in Miami to enjoy your 1/2 Day Animal Adventure. Your tour will include, the Dolphin Swim, Educational Briefing, Entrance to the Park, Marine Animal Shows (which can include the dolphin show and more), Round Trip Transportation, Beverages (Water and Juices), Snacks (Bagels, Fruits, and Brownies), and FREE Dolphin Tee Shirt (Participants Only). Bionic” Dolphin Getting New Tail Soon

Hi All,

You have to see this video from CBS News about Winter the Dolphin. If you don’t know, Winter, an Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin, is a playful two-year-old. She was found off the coast of Florida, caught in a crab trap and lost her tail.  To read more on Winter, go to my old blog post. [Click Here]

Winter the Dolphin

Well I knew they were trying to put a prosthetic tail on her but did not know what was going on till I saw this news post today. Kevin Carroll is building a Prosthetic Tail For “Winter” The Dolphin. Carroll is one of the world’s leading prosthetists. Besides his work with people, he has designed prosthetics for dogs, an ostrich, and even a duck. And now he is working on Winter.

In this video news clip of Winter, you will see Winter without her tail and how she is moving right now without the new tail. Also, you will see what Carroll is doing and how he is building this tail, very interesting information. Just get through the commericial at the beginning, nothing is free in America, and watch the news clip. It so cool to see Winter in action. [Winter the Dolphin Video, Click Here]

What do you think about what Kevin Carroll is doing? Do you think Winter will be able to adapt to the prosthetic tail? Anyone have more stories or photos of her?
God Bless,
John

Volunteers Hit the Beach for Annual Dolphin Count

Hi All,

I love when I see people and volunteers getting out there and helping the Marine Mammal Community. This group from the Virginia and North Carolina Area are doing something to help the Dolphin population. The volunteers are doing a dolphin count. This count gives researchers an idea of how many dolphins are along the coast and where they are distributed.

Has anyone out there done this type of volunteering? What was the experience like?

Have a great day!
God Bless,
John
