Tougher laws to protect friendly dolphins
Hi All,
I read this article about how in the UK they are trying to pass legislation to prevent or protect wild dolphins from Human contact. I looked at this story two ways, one, the debate over wild dolphins and humans, and two, how playful some dolphins are with humans.
This story covers both points. So please read the story to get your opinion.
The story contains…
In the UK, they are trying to pass stronger legislation to protect “friendly” bottlenose dolphins from being “loved to death” is being urged by a leading conservation organisation.
The problem with existing measures aimed at preventing harm to or disturbance of these charismatic marine mammals is that they weren’t designed to deal with problems arising from exceptional individual dolphins going out of their way to court human attention.

At Dolphin World, we sell a Wild Dolphin Encounter in the Bimini Bahamas where humans get in the water with the wild spotted dolphins. This trip is done with total respect of the dolphins. The humans never touch or feed the wild dolphins. I have done this Bimini trip and it is an amazing vacation!! The Dolphins have a great time with the humans and also the humans have a blast with the dolphins.
The other part of the story about how curious and playful some dolphins are with humans really amazes me. You really could get very close and befriend a wild dolphin, this story show this. If the education and respect is not there by the humans, the dolphins can be fooled that all humans and boats are good. As we see in this article, all the friendly dolphins mentioned got killed by passing boats.
Do you think it makes sense to make more legislation or do you think we should invest more money in education and safety to protect wild dolphins?
Have a great day!!!
God Bless,
John

I have been lucky enough to meet and swim with Jojo in the Turks and Caicos Islands a few times and have gained a great new respect for Dolphins. I’ve also learned a lot from Dean Bernal. Through education (from Dean) the residents of Provo coexist with Jojo quite nicely. Jojo shows up on his terms.
Therefore I believe in the education and safety route for living with Dolphins.

Hi,
My wife and I are considering a vacation to Turks and Caicos at Club Med. My question is do any of you folks know if Club Med has been responsible recently concerning the safety and well being of JoJo and other dolphins in the waters they use? We don’t want to give business to a company that isn’t taking measures to protect the environment they use for profit. I haven’t found a way to mail Dean Bernal directly, has he been happy with the measures Club Med has made to improve safety for dolphins there? Apparently in the past he wasn’t pleased with their measures to protect the dolphins there.

Hi Scott,
I have not heard of anything negative about Club Med. If you go back there, please ask about their records on Dolphin Safety and send me an email on what they say.
God Bless,
John

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Tougher laws to protect friendly dolphins, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

hai,i just received an email showing the cruelty of people in germany towards hundreds of dolphins!the dolphins were slaughtered to death and it was a celebration for them! This happens every year in Feroe island in Denmark . In this slaughter the main participants are young teens. WHY?
To show that they are adults and mature…The dolphins don’t die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hocks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim extremely compatible with the cry of a new born child.
oh my god.how can this happen?it make me sick seeing those pictures.
i dont know where to find an association defending this animals.i hope somebody out there will take action againts these cruelty.
