Aquatica – A New Place to Swim and Be with Dolphins

Hi All,

I just read about Aquatica, a new water park in Orlando, sounds like a lot of fun. Here is a little write up about it….

Aquatica – The newest water attraction in Orlando has 59 acres across the street from parent Sea World Orlando. Themed to the South Seas, it has macaws and other exotic birds, Commerson’s dolphins and tropical fish, and it offers water, water everywhere

Commerson Dolphin

–3.3 million gallons of it in six lagoons, rivers with waterfalls, geysers and more, including two wave pools. To “connect visitors to the sea”, according to Joe Couceiro, vice president of marketing, the park also has a beach measuring more than 83,000 square feet, plus a 15,000 square foot pool with a fort with slides and water cannons.

The centerpiece is an adventure that catapults visitors through 300 feet of clear tubes to a lagoon filled with black and white Commerson’s dolphins. Tickets are $38.95 (adults) and $32.95 (children). Visit www.AquaticaBySeaWorld.com.

This would be a great thing to do after swimming with the dolphins Orlando in Discovery Cove. Has anyone been there yet? Any reviews of Aquatica?

Punta Cana Dolphin Experience Closed till April 21, 2008

Hi All,

In Punta Cana, they just had a big storm in March and unfortunately the Natural Dolphin Swim facility there is closed to fix the damage to the Dolphin area. It should be open again by April 21, 2008.

So hopefully this won’t spoil your vacation too much if you are planning on going to Punta Cana. We do offer the tour that flys you to Puerto Plata, so you do have an option.

Swim with Dolphin Videos in Miami

Hi All,

I have worked hard to try to incorporate video on the blog. It has not been easy. We use wordpress blog and I am having a hard time to add the widgets and plugins. If anyone out there has some experience in that. I hope to hear from you. Well, here are examples of what I have done so far with customers recently on my DolphinWorld YouTube account.

As you can see the video quality is not the best and I am trying to improve that. Has anyone used a Flip Video Camera? I heard it was really a good video camera and easy to upload to YouTube. Has anyone out there have any suggestions to make better videos?
Happy Valentines Day!!

911 Remembered

The World Trade Center

Hi All,

I usually talk about Dolphins most of the times but I need to remember the World Trade Center today and what it meant to me. Since I grew up in the shadow of the Towers in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, I saw the towers being built as a young boy. I have really fond memories of them, walking by them hundreds of times, going up to the top many times, going to a wedding at the Windows of the World, having a father playing Piano there,  my fraternity brother dieing there, and serving with my church at Ground Zero.

The lower part of Manhattan was my playground when I was a youth, playing in the business district, under the sky scrappers, China Town, Little Italy, and of coarse the Twin Towers. I used to walk between the 2 towers and looked at the top of those buildings and my neck used to hurt so much because I had to bend so far back. Those buildings were a beacon for me; whenever I was in New York City and saw them, I knew my family was not too far away.

Going to the top of those building and walking outside on the railing was so scary and fun. The wind was always so strong up there and you would think it would blow you off the top of the buildings. My mom used to love to go up there with me. I always got a big kick out of how scared she was too. One time a guy walked across the top of both towers on a tight rope. That was totally crazy, but he made it. The one building had the observation tower and other had the TV antenna. That antenna was huge; I think it was 10 stories tall in itself.

My favorite cousin had his wedding reception at Window of the World, which was on the 110th Floor. During the reception, you could feel the building sway a little and everyone was having so much fun with the view from up there. It was a once in a lifetime wedding reception.

My dad, who is a piano player and he used to work in the Windows of the World Restaurant, playing piano man type songs for the guests. You know, Frankie and Dino type songs that the older crowd liked. The restaurant was very upscale. Wow, now that I think about it, I did take one of my first high school dates there too. She was impressed.

My fraternity brother, Jim Kelly, who worked on the top Floor, died during the attacks. Once the attacked happen, I did not know Jim was working there but all the guys rallied together to gather money and support for him and his family, wife and 4 girls. I was called in Florida and went to the wake and funeral in NY. I was amazed how many hundreds of people came to Jim’s wake. People were waiting outside in big lines to get in. It was touching how many people came to the wake.  I was told that many of people showing up for the wake did not even know Jim and where just showing respect for him and the family.

Finally, my church Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale was one of the first churches to go up to Ground Zero on December 2001. I was part of that team to go up. We had a team about 50 people. Some of the team serve at the big feeding / break station at Ground Zero, they had another smaller break station by Ground Zero, and part of the team was at the morgue. We did whatever we could to serve all the construction workers, police, and firemen at the site, by giving love, patience, prayer, kindness, conversation, listening and just a smile. It was amazing 10 days in New York City.

I was able to come full cycle with the World Trade Center, from seeing it being built, seeing a big pile of rubble, to now, a huge empty hole. So today I pray for all the survivor families and especially for my Jim Kelly’s wife and 4 girls that are still recovering from their loss.

911, a day and buildings I will never forget.

I would love to hear your thoughts…..
God Bless,
John

Marine Animal Webcam – Elephant Seals

Hi All,

One of my viewers sent me this Web Cam website, its a very cool one. It’s about Elephant Seals, a little different from Dolphins but in the Marine Mammal family.

It’s about the largest gatherings of northern elephant seals in the world. Every December, thousands of the lumbering seals converge here on the beaches of California’s Año Nuevo State Reserve to rest, mate, and give birth. [See More]

Virginia Tech and Dolphins

Hi All,

You may be wondering why I titled this “Virginia Tech and Dolphins”. Well, first, I wanted to acknowledge the tragedy in Virginia Tech. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends.

It really made me think about life and how short it is. We never know the number of days we have on this earth, only God knows that. So on the second part of my title, Dolphins, if you always wanted to swim with them, then do it. I am encouraging you to do things that you have always wanted to do, maybe its not swimming with dolphins, but maybe its white water rafting, or even sky diving. Or even better than than that, maybe you need to reconnect with your family again. It really drives me crazy when I hear sibling not talking, or parents not talking with their children. Why have any regrets and wishing you had done something before its over.

This is pep talk is to myself too, some days I spend hours and hours working. Unlike me, a friend called me last night and asked me to scuba dive today. I usually need to plan in advance but last night I thought about what I am preaching to you right now and I said “YES”. Bingo, I was out under the ocean today and it was sooooo beautiful.

Any comments about this?
Have a great day!
God Bless
John

Trying to Scuba Dive with the Dolphins, Hollywood Florida

Hi there,

Yesterday, Mark, my good dive buddy and church friend, and I, went scuba diving off Hollywood Beach, FL. It was finally a beautiful day, previously, we had tremendous winds and the ocean had high seas for about a week. We were not sure how the conditions would be on the way out to the ocean on Mark’s boat. We were totally blessed because the visability was really amazing, 50 – 100 feet, and the seas were very calm, 1 – 2 foot chop.

John, happy he is not sea sick and loving the day of diving!

scuba dive trip in Florida

Since I have dove the Ft. Lauderdale area for many years, I have always had the desire to run into a school of wild dolphins out there and being able to swim around with them. You do feel like a dolphin when you scuba dive. At least that’s what I think. :) Again this was another day, I was wondering if this would be the eventful day. Unfortunately, again nothing, we dove in 50 + feet the first dive and 20+ feet on the second dive.

Wild Dolphins

I know, you will see tons of wild dolphins in the Florida Keys. We sell a Key West Wild Dolphin adventure, which is a lots of fun. Also, you see lot of wild dolphins on the West Coast of Florida. A company in Naples, Florida, does a great job finding wild dolphins over there, Naples Water Tours.

For some reason, Ft. Lauderdale does not attract dolphins. I heard the water is too deep and not a good fishing spot for the dolphins, darn.

My questions to you scuba divers, has anyone had an encounter with wild dolphins while scuba diving. Please send me that story, I would love to hear about it. I need some hope that I will have a chance to swim with the dolphin while scuba diving in the Ft. Lauderale area.

God Bless,
John
