Orlando Dolphins Teaching Each Other Behaviors

Hi All,

I am sure many of you have seen these videos of a group of swimming dolphins in Orlando that blow bubbles while moving around the aquarium. I have read they are teaching each other this behavior. Is this true? Can anyone out there add to this fact or fiction?

Here is the video to prove this:

Feed Wild Dolphins – Should You Do it or Not?

Hi All,

Should you feed wild dolphins or any wild animals? Most times when I am out in nature, I see people feeding wild animals a lot, birds, racoons, fishes, dogs, and cats. So we are pretty conditioned as people to feed animals and not feeding them is really hard for people to do. If this is you, please read this article from NOAA about feeding wild Dolphins, especially if you live in Florida or the Carolina’s. Please read this….

“Just stop feeding me!” says an animated dolphin in a new public service announcement released today that highlights the dangers of dolphins getting hooked on human handouts. The PSA was produced by a coalition of government agencies and private organizations. < Read More>

Feeding Wild Dolphin

Do you feed wild dolphins and do you feed them? Do you think it is OK to feed Wild Dolphins, why? I would like to hear both sides to this issue.

Dolphin Aquarium coming to Georgia

Hi All,

I thought this was interesting. I read that the Georgia Aquarium is going to build a Dolphin facility for encounters, shows and education. Here is the post I saw:

Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta is adding a $110-million dolphin exhibit that will open by the end of 2010. The additional 84,000 square feet of space and 1.3-million-gallon exhibit will include dolphin encounters, viewing windows and dolphin shows.

Pretty interesting. I don’t know where they will be getting their dolphins from because it is very difficult for US companies to acquire dolphins. It will be interesting to see how this project develops.

How do you feel about a new dolphin facility in Georgia?

Dolphins Trapped Under the Ice in Canada

Hi All,

I caught this on the TV news last night and I thought I would investigate it more on google today. As it seems, a small group of dolphins swam into a bay in Canada, to fish for food. A sudden storm came and froze the bay water. The escape to the open ocean was also frozen for the dolphins and now the dolphins are trapped.

Now the bay is getting more and more frozen and the whole bay will be frozen over. The dolphins soon won’t be able to breath and die. Pretty sad stuff.

Well this is the latest news I read online from a Canadian Publications.

It reads… Distressed by the suffering of a group of trapped dolphins, men in a small Newfoundland outport took matters into their own hands on Thursday and cut a path through ice in a bay to help the dolphins but this may have caused more problems then helped < Read More about the Dolphins Plight>

Fisherman Trying to Rescue Dolphins

Did the fisherman do the right thing by helping the dolphins or should they have left the dolphins alone? You need to read the story in order to see what the fisherman did.

Navy’s Plan to Deploy Dolphins for Homeland Security

Hi All,

I find this really interesting, what the US Navy is doing with Bottlenose Dolphins and Sea Lions. Right now the navy wants to use these mammals to protect a Navy Submarine Fleet in Washington State. You need to read this article from LA Times:

The article reads:
The Navy wants to use dolphins and sea lions to protect a Puget Sound submarine fleet, as the mammals do in Georgia. But opponents say the waters off Washington state are too cold for the animals. < Read More>

Dolphin Photograph of the Week

Hi All,

I really love this photo I took last week with some guest from Canada. They got off a Princess Cruise ship and were spending a few extra days in Fort Lauderdale. They purchased the dolphin encounter tour which requires no swimming ability.

Feed and dolphin jumping at same time

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for a good video camera for shooting Youtube videos? I am presently using a flip video camera and the videos are good but pretty grainy at best. Any suggestions?

Marine Mammal Conservancy Needs $500,000 For Property

Hi All,

I just saw this on the news tonight and thought it would be interesting to share with you all about the Marine Mammal Conservancy. I have heard about them and their work of rehabilitation of Marine Mammals. I know most of most of my reader love dolphins and marine animals may be interested in the Marine Mammal’s Conservancy situation.

The Story reads
The Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo is scrambling to raise $500,000 to buy the property where they help sick animals. Also known as the MMC, the organization is a nonprofit group that’s been trusted for more than 20 years. But now the facility itself needs emergency treatment. The group has waited for years to buy the land they have been leasing. The organization only has until March 2009 to come up with the cash or the deal is off the table. < Read More of this Story>

Do any of our readers know about this organization? Any opinions?

Grand Cayman – A New Place to Swim with the Dolphins

Hi All,

We have added a new dolphin facility to our already growing number of facilities. I am thrilled to announce that Dolphin World is representing the Swimming with the Dolphins in Grand Cayman.

Grand Cayman swimming with the dolphins

As of right now, I have not been there but plan to make a visit soon, to do a site inspection and get to know the Cayman Islands a little better. If anyone out there has any insight about Grand Cayman, I would love to hear from you. From what I know, the dolphin facility is near the Turtle Farm on the western edge of the island, only about 15 – 20 minute taxi ride from George Town and Cruise Ship Port.

From what I have heard, the island is not that big. Well, I am excited about the new location and can not wait to share more about Grand Cayman to you all in the future.

Dolphin and Sea Lion Combo in Nassau Bahamas

Hi All,

I was looking at the articles I have wrote in 2008 and was trying to see what stories I have missed to share with you.

This one story, I did not share on the blog. I had spent a weekend in November on Nassau, Bahamas with my wife and we did the Dolphin Swim and Sea Lion Combo. We also stayed at the Sheraton Cable Beach, a great hotel. We had a great chance to discover the beauty of this jewel of an island.

If you go to Nassau / Paradise Island, you need to try this dolphin swim and sea lion combo. During the day, you have a chance to relax on your own private beach, way cool. The story starts with…..

We needed a quick get-a-way for a weekend. My wife wanted someplace warm and with beautiful blue ocean waters. What better place than Nassau Bahamas. With a few clicks of my computer mouse, I was able to book my flight and Hotel at the Nassau Sheraton Cable Beach. Then we needed activities we both would enjoy too. Nassau is famous for the Blue Lagoon, a private Island where you can swim with Dolphins, have a Sea Lion encounter, and relax on a private beach. We booked the Dolphin / Sea Lion Combo activity online with dolphinreservation.com and we were set for a fun and romantic mini weekend vacation. < Read More>
