The Diets of Wild Dolphins

Hi All,

We have been asked many times what do dolphins eat? The food is practically the same for wild dolphins and captive dolphins but it how the wild dolphins get their food which is quit amazing. So we have a story of what dolphins eat and how the wild dolphins get it.

The story…

The methods that these dolphins use to hunt for their food are astounding and simply ingenious. There are many different types of methods such as, herding, whacking, stunning, corralling, and foraging. We will go in depth and analyze each of these tactics because each is used in a different circumstance and ultimately a different situation. Method one, also known as herding, is one of the most common used by the basic dolphin, dolphins ally themselves with one another for the common good, and surround a of school of fish, and then take turns swimming through the densely packed school and eating their fill, until they are all filled, or will find another and repeat the process.

Dolphins vs Porpoises

Hi All,

I always get lots of people say, “I want to swim with the fishes”  or “I want to swim with the porpoises”. Hopefully everyone knows that dolphins are mammals, just like you and me, not fishes.  But many of you may not know there is a difference of a dolphin and a porpoise.

This article is to hopefully show you the difference < Dolphin Vs Porpoises Click Here to read>

Porpoise is much different than a bottlenose dolphin
Here is a Porpoise. Do you see the difference?

Did we miss anything in the article about the two mammals? If we did, we need your feed back.

Stage Dolphin Die In at Japanese Embassy

Hi All,

Here is the latest news report about the  Dolphin Die In that happened yesterday in Washington DC in front of the Japanese Embassy. It did not say how many people were there. but it looked like there were quit a few protesters from the photos. They were really organized with a skit showing the hunting practice of the Japanese fishermen. If you are interested, you should read this article.

Dolphin Protest

Story:
Environmental and animal rights activists dressed as dolphins Wednesday staged a die-in in Washington to protest what they called the “horrific butchering” of thousands of dolphins by Japanese fishermen every year. < Read More>

Well, I give these people a lot of credit for going out there and doing something to help the dolphins. I hope the Japanese Government does something about this practice and either stops it or limits the amount of dolphins that are hunted.

What is your opinion?

Swim with Dolphins – For Women or Men?

Hi there,

I am always amazed on my tours how many more women participate in the swim with dolphins programs we offer in Florida. It seems about 95% of my clientele are women. Today on my tour was the first time in a long time, which a single man wanted to do the swim with dolphins program and was excited about doing this. Most men are participating because they doing it for their wife or girlfriend, not because they wanted to do it or were excited about it.

This guy is enjoying his dolphin experience :)

I know I see many men with pets so I know men enjoy animals as much as women but when it comes to dolphins, they just don’t seem to want to swim with them.

Do you have any theories why? I thought I would get some feed back from my readers.

Shrewsbury River New Jersey Dolphins Stay There for Now

Hi there,

I am not sure you heard about this pod of bottlenose dolphins that are swimming around the Shrewsbury River in New Jersery. Its a good size pod. The local officials are not worried about these dolphin’s health. This river has plenty of salty water and the dolphins have lots of food. The food is what is keeping the dolphins there.

In fact this holiday weekend the government is trying to protect the dolphins from human harassment, with humans trying to swim with them in the wild or boaters getting too close. So there is extra enforcement and local watches going on. In fact there is a cool website to report any harassment to NOAA which is the government agency overseeing their protection. This site has some great press releases and some really cool photos of the dolphins swimming and jumping in the river. You need to check it out.

What you think should the government try to force the dolphins out of the river or let them stay there?

Dolphin Gifts Make a Splash

Hi All,

I know this blog post is self serving, but my friend Monica Dyben wrote a nice story about our Dolphin World retail store. We have invested a lot of time to increase the amount dolphin retail items on our website, from 75 items to over 200 items. A big jump, I must say so myself. If you are interested in Dolphin Items like, Dolphin Clothing, Dolphin Jewelry, Dolphin Toys, Dolphin Figurines, and Dolphin Household Items, then you would like and might relate to Monica’s story.
